MEKONG DELTA VOLUNTEER PROJECTS FOR STUDENT GROUP

(5 days/ 4 nights)

DAY 1 – SAIGON – BEN TRE – VINH LONG
In the morning, 08:00 – Depart from the hotel and drive southward to Mekong Delta. The drive takes nearly 2.5 hours. Upon arrival in Ben Tre, embark on a motorized boat trip along the scenic Ben Tre River, viewing various local industries along the way. Have some stops to visit local workshops: making bricks by the kilns; Making coconut candy; Sleeping straw mats. Take a motor cart passing fruit and vegetable fields. Ride a short sampan boat on a small creek of water-coconut trees.Lunch at a garden restaurant.
In the afternoon, transfer to Cai Be (Vinh Long). Visit the local workshops where you can see how to make rice paper, coconut candy and pop-rice, pop-corn … It is so interesting to visit the handicraft village where you can see how they make some special products: making rice-net for spring-rolls, fish sauce & soya sauce…
Check in local homestay and leisure. During our time in this region we will be expected to assist with the preparation and cooking of meals for our group and local family. Overnight in Vinh Long.
*** Note: The home stay is a private home in Mekong Delta . Accommodation is very basic featuring basic bedding, pillows, blankets, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, electric lights and western toilets. Main luggage may be left in our city hotel storage room while on the community project

DAY 2 – VINH LONG/ SERVICE-LEARNING VOLUNTEER PROJECT
Boat or bike to the project site (house building / school). Our Leaders will devide in small groups. We start to our project . This will take the form of practical building and some laboring tasks as we construct a house for an impoverished family in this remote region. Breaking into groups, there will be a variety of tasks to undertake each day of the project from layering bicks, mixing cement, assembling frames, hammering, sawing and transporting of materials… Local tradesmen and tour leaders will be supervising and assisting throughout the project, often identifying students with particular skills to perform the more difficult or skill orientated tasks. Groups will be rotated throughout the project.
The days will be long and the results rewarding as we see our project come to fruition and as curious villages from all around come to watch and assist us.
Visit one of the local school have a interaction with local students. (Note: pls bring some presents for the local kids). After a whole day working, we will enjoy a delicious final meal and enjoy a traditional music show by the local singers

DAY 3 – VINH LONG – CAN THO
This morning we will come back the work and have the pictures of the new house / school, farewell the Mekong Delta to make our return trip. Boat to visit Cai Be colorful floating market cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables.
Get transfer to Can Tho, the centre of Mekong Delta. Check in hotel and leisure. Overnight in Can Tho.

DAY 4 – CAN THO – FLOATING MARKET
Have you heard about A Floating Market in Mekong? The watery world of the Mekong Delta is home to many bustling floating markets. This day is when you can feast your eyes on many interesting things on the water at Cai Rang Floating Market.
In the morning, have breakfast at your hotel and check out. 08:00 – Get to Ninh Kieu quay where you board a motorized boat to meandering through the market. Followed by a short ride to Ba Cong village to pay a visit to a family who specializes in making rice paper and noodle. Cruise back to the quay and make your way to visit Binh Thuy Ancient House. This is an ideal place to explore the region’s history. It is one of the rare French style houses remaining in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. The house, imbued with French architectural style, was recognised as a national heritage site. The house has been selected for the filming of many successful cinematic works, such as ‘Nguoi Dep Tay Do’ (A Beauty of Tay Do), Nhung Neo Duong Phu Sa (Alluvial Ways), and Nguoi Tinh (The Lover) – a famous French drama film.

DAY 5 – CAN THO – SAIGON – DEPARTS
After breakfast at hotel, you are free at leisure until time get transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City. Have lunch at local restaurant on the way.
Transfer to airport directly to take your departure flight to Cambodia. End of our services.
