(4 days/ 3 nights)
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN LUANG PRABANG

Today, take it easy until transferring to the airport for the 11.40 flight to Luang Prabang the spiritual capital of Laos. Visit the temples Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Mai, and see the former Royal Palace which is now the National Museum with its halls containing rare religious and cultural artifacts. Then walk up the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi, for panoramic views of the city as the sun sets. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
DAY 2: LUANG PRABANG – PAK OU CAVES
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
If you wish, get an early start (6:00am or so) and go watch or participate in the traditional Lao rite of Almsgiving to the monks. In the city, some 300+ monks file through silently collecting alms. This is an amazing sight and your guide will be on hand to demonstrate and explain this important ritual. Afterwards, visit the Morning Market and see an array of meats, vegetables and spices the locals use in their cooking.
Return to your hotel for breakfast before cruise to Pak Ou Buddha Caves. Board a long-tail boat to begin the cruise along the amazing Mekong which takes you past idyllic scenes of rural riverside life and spectacular scenery until reaching the beautiful Pak Ou Caves which sit amongst the limestone cliffs where the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers meet. The caves are spilt in two, one named Tham Ting and the other Tham Theung. They are both filled with thousands of Buddha images and statues which have been deposited here over centuries. On the way, stop to visit Ban Xang Khong, where the weaving of Lao textiles still takes place on ancient wooden looms. Enjoy lunch before your return cruise back to the town.
Get to your hotel for a rest before getting out again to enjoy a one hour walking tour of Luang Prabang’s atmospheric night market. Here you’ll find perhaps the most extensive collection of traditional and ethnic handicrafts for sale in Laos, the stalls overflowing with colorful textiles, sumptuous quilts, carvings, basketry, ceramics, clothing, handmade paper goods and even Beer Lao T-shirts. This beguiling market is open daily from dusk until about 10pm. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
